Controle with punkkiCo.

As a response to our current era of escalating social media frenzy and its fleshless interaction, our latest work explores what it means to be in control, between control, out of control and by extension what it means to set controls for oneself; this collaborative project between choreographer Raisa Punkki, visual artist Alice Malia, lighting designer Jack Beuttler, sound designer Aaron M. Gold and five dancers utilizes the tools of the stage—sound, light, and visual design—as a means of investigating what it means to be seen versus choosing not to be seen

Dancers Meegan Hertensteiner, Derek Harris, Dalton Alexander, Karla Quintero and Hien Huynh will bring their A-game and super-dancer-powers to master the explosive, sensual and athletic choreography.

Central to the production will be the interplay of light and shadow, which will be used to amplify notions of what it means to be seen or not to be seen. Paper sculptures that dot the set will be pierced by lights of various temperatures as dancers veer from warm and cozy scenes to those that are curt and sharp.

Among the performers onstage will be visual artist and set designer Alice Malia, who while on stage will create paper sculptures and drawings in real time that produce shifting landscapes across the stage.
